Offshore brings up some good points on proper way to check the oil level. There's been many discussion as to the proper way to check the oil. Some service manager even said that full mark when cold is the proper level. I do would personally stay away from that service manager. Ever since a service Manager told me that AOS failure is due to oil overfill I’ve been really watching anyone who’s had an AOS failure and ask the same questions.

When my AOS failed it was right after I changed my oil and added the 8 ~ qts to fill according to the level on the dash and dipstick. Yes this was a warm reading after driving several miles and engine was hot. Ever since I had this failure I’ve kept the level filled only half way between the “Low” and “Full” mark. Yes the difference between the low and full mark is only about 1 ½ qt. To me it’s safer to be ½ qt low than ¼ qt overfull…. I’ll take my chances this way.
