For those interested in trying it there's now a WAP interface available.

Login is normal as is the access to the index page. However the only thing available on the index page is the Recent Threads and Upcoming Events, if there are any to list. Thread listing is linear only.

Please drop me an email or send a PM with any feedback. There may be a few small glitches but things should basically work.

Cool! It looks clean and not too cluttered.

Very nice. Well done! With this reply I am testing posting in the WAP version from my SnackBerry. :) Thanks!

More on this: On returning to babblers from my SnackBerry I was forced to log in again. So no cookie was set, or if it was it didn't persist. I know that cookies can persist on my SnackBerry. Can you either 1. change the cookie that gets set for handhelds, or 2. expose the "remember me" feature in the login form?

Thanks,

Snaxster

I've added the Remember Me checkbox but the cookies aren't being set in the simulator I'm using. So if your wap browser handles cookies properly it "should" work as all the right parameters are there. Let me know.

That worked, Tom. Thanks!

Hmm... but that reply was meant for your last to me about adding "Remember Me".

The way Quick Reply works is different from when using the Threaded mode as it just places the reply at the "bottom" of the list. Let me see if there's anything I can do that might work for a threaded reply.

I've changed the style that's used for WAP so you might want to try things again when you get a chance. I don't think the jump menu is working but I'm not sure as it might be operator error on my part :)

I tried it again, but can't seem to break out of PDA mode (maybe due to the cookie), so no dice with threaded replies. But also no problem. :) I'll try again later, and in the meantime I still get to read Babblers on the go. Thanks!

If you are using one of the recognized devices then the user is forced into the PDA style so there's no way to break out of it ;). You should be getting the new style but if you aren't for some reason then you will probably have to delete the cookie.

The question that I have at the moment is if the navigation drop down at the top of the page is working properly. It works on a "real" browser but not in the WAP simulator I'm using.

I hope you'll see this reply, Tom. I'm replying from the SnackBerry.

Yes, I get the nav drop-down! But about that: I think it works too well. Its onselect behavior always loads the page corresponding to the selection, whether you want it to or not (for example, if you make a mistake or if you change your mind in which case you're forced to reload the current page.)

Point taken. I've changed it by adding a "Go" button. :D

Well done, Tom. I think we've shaken out all the bugs. I'm a usabIlity geek, if it wasn't obvious. ;) Thanks for exposing this smartphone-friendly UI. I will probably use it more often than the web UI from now on.
