We had a mini-hack gathering at Dan's. First on the agenda is the Tom & Dan's very own installation procedures of the V1 for Brian's new SYS. It is always fun to see the brand new cars. I am sure that I have not seen all the color combinations, but through Babblers events, I bet I have most. Anyway, SY is such a nice subtle color that I can't understand why Brian was so eager to install his V1! Just kidding….
The installation went smoothly as a team effort including Brian H., Tom M., Dan F., Scott F. Jeff L. and, of course, me. I mainly watched as Tom and Dan expertly mounted the box, completed the power installations and completed the project. Easy, right? Well, it did look perfect when they were done and I am sure that Brian made it home just a little faster that day! Tom took plenty of pictures of his handy-work, so I am keeping an eye peeled for Tom to document the process.
Jeff contributed with his well-known assessment of the changes on the new MY cars and, as he himself put it, "breaking in the new owners"! He came prepared with his high-quality Snap-On tools J and even a wide plastic pry bar which was perfect for removing the pads from the rollbar. Also discovered by Claw-hammer, was the new tab on the MY 2001 cars located on the inside of the gas compartment. The new gas caps have a rubber leash attaching them to the car. Wrapping the leash over the tab suspends the cap away from the car body while fueling. Pretty spiffy stuff! He also showed me the cable located in front of the passenger door that can be used to unlock the gas cap compartment in the event of power loss. Always looking out for Babblers' best interests, he even offered to surgically remove Brian's cruise control stalk to improve the leg room! I think Brian will do just fine even with the stalk in place.
Afterward we enjoyed a nice lunch at the Brewpub in Fremont. Did you know MMD is a major salad fan?! We enjoyed a long session of Babblers-chat and food before Tom, Brian and Scott headed home. Tom had a little incident on the way home (oh "deer"), and fortunately no serious damage was done to Tom, Tom's car or the deer. Chalk that up to cautious and observant driving.
Jeff and I followed Dan back to his place to wash cars. Jeff explained that his AS Boxster was net yet in need of its semi-annual car wash, but Dan and I felt that our black cars would benefit from a good wash. Dan gave me some awesome tips such as using the hose to "pre-rinse" away most of the water and some neat products to use on tires and wheels. After following up with some glaze and wax on the hood and bumper, my car was sparkling! Choosing from Dan's large selection of car-care products takes almost as long as using them. I think that guy has tried about everything on his metallic black Boxster S!
The next modification on the list was Dan's new Gemballa pedals. The pedals look awesome and even better surrounded by his new Lloyd's mats. Sweet! I have the same pedals and I am really happy with them. They look great, they feel strong and rigid, and they really grip the soles of my shoes!
A trip to the hardware store and Dan showed me which jack stands to buy and I also picked up some Maguiars Quick Detailer. Dan was very generous and accommodating and we enjoyed and wonderful sushi dinner with Denise and even a movie. Man, that roar of the race cars from Dan's surround sound shakes the place like an earthquake!
Thanks all for great Babblers fun and chat. We covered plenty of info regarding upcoming events and drives. Keep posted for more information on such activities as karts, a drive through the Russian River area, San Simeon/Hearst Castle, and a car-detail day! Make sure you keep tuned to the Babblers site for your Porsche-related FUN!!!
