View Full Version : Crappy UPN picture on DirecTV
If you subscribe to DirecTV and have local channels (or even if you don't) please call D* at 1-800-695-9251 and complain about the poor signal quality on UPN. D* won't do anything unless enough people call to complain. I guess that's what they call good customer service.
Their solution was to give me a $10 per month discount on service instead of fixing the problem with the signal. For now I'm being forced to go back to video tape for recording. Ugh!

Is your upn signal always bad? I have noticed mine as bad recently but I *thought* it comes and goes. I could be wrong.
It's been "poor" for quite some time. It's virtually unwatchable at the moment. It currently has severe ghosting with 3 or 4 reflections and colors saturate and then fade out.

Thanks for the impetus to call them, Tom. We noticed the signal problem last week. I just called and registered my complaint. There may be only 1 hour per week on UPN that I care to watch, but it should be a good quality signal.

1 hour/week?! The Simpsons are on 90 min daily. :)
Woo Hoo!!! :)
DirecTv has cleaned up the UPN signal :D :D :D and it looks terrific. Hopefully this will last a while.

I just bought a new HDTV and I'm currently on Comcrap Cable. I'm contemplating DirecTv or Dish. Which one is better? I will be hooking up 4 TVs, so I don't want to spend a fortune.
What I save will be spent on the Boxster. :)
If you have HD then which one has more HDTV content? What about subscribing to HD only programming like Voom (http://www.voom.com/util/about_us/index.jsp)?
Have you already checked A/V specific sites like AVS Forum (http://www.avsforum.com/) for your research?
Also, willl you be geting an HDTV satellite recorder? If so, that may limit your choices.

Thanks for the tips Tom. I'm not exactly a TV junky, I'm just looking for a good solution for viewing HDTV. The other TV's rarely ever get used (one's in the garage in front of the elliptical trainer ;) ) I'll check out the AVS forum. When comparing Dish & DirecTv I didn't see much difference, it probably depends on who has the best special going on when I decide to pull the trigger.

I may not be completely up-to-date, since I got satellite 3 years ago and TiVo 2 years ago, but it seemed to me that DirecTV had a wider selection of third-party tuners. For example, DirecTiVo -- integrated TiVo with a dual-tuner satellite receiver -- was not possible with Dish at the time (not sure about now). An integrated dual-tuner PVR + satellite receiver is an absolute MUST HAVE if you are going the PVR and satellite route. HDTV reception would be a distant second consideration in my opinion.
