Thanks BoxsterBob - San Carlos (http://www.babblers.org/forums/member.php?u=11)!

After Boxsterbob's previous post, george g (http://www.babblers.org/forums/member.php?u=398) and I have been talking about having a day road trip up to the Russian River to have lunch at the Union Hotel. (http://www.unionhotel.com/menus.html) Ron aka offshore (http://www.babblers.org/forums/member.php?u=4666)...lives in Rohnert Park is willing to help plan a awesome spirited drive afterwards.

Two dates in June are being considered:
Saturday June 12th
or
Saturday June 19th

If you are interested in going, what day would work for you? Answer the poll (you can check both days, if either day is ok)
more details to follow...

The scenic drive on Bohemian Highway (http://www.bohemianconnection.com/), with those charming townships forgotten by time: Freestone, Occidental and Monte Rio.
The Bohemian Highway is just 60 miles north of San Francisco (about an hour and a half's drive).
Wherever you are along the Bohemian Highway, you are surrounded by nature's grandest giants: the magnificent redwoods.
http://www.bohemianconnection.com/images/map2.gif

http://www.bohemianconnection.com/images/main_ocean.jpg
http://www.bohemianconnection.com/images/shim.gifThe Pacific Ocean lies 10 miles west of the Bohemian Highway in the form of a series of beaches stretching 17 miles from north to south as part of the Sonoma Coast State Beach system.

Regardless of which road we take, you will be rewarded with the opportunity to see something unique along the way.
http://www.bohemianconnection.com/images/shim.gif

However, if travel permits, we could take the road less traveled but all the more spectacular - that is
Coleman Valley Road from downtown Occidental. At its highest point you can see both the Pacific Ocean to the west and the forested valleys to the east.

This visceral vantage point is all the reason anyone needs to visit the area along the Bohemian Highway

Dede June 12th and 13th are the BIG GGR AX days at Alameda so some conflict may come up with some of the Babblers. I've been working with DocDanRacy to get some sponsorship for the event and should be there one of the days. If you want to go the Bohemian Hwy route then, after lunch at The Union, we could drive The Bohemian to Hwy 116 River Road at Monte Rio and go through Duncan's Mills (great bakery and coffee shop as well as old railroad cars) and come out on Hwy 1 at Jenner, then the group could head back south and go through Bodega Bay (the best clam chowder on the left coast at Spud Point Marina, great crab sandwiches too) and whomever wants to can continue south on Hwy 1, or we can head back to the 101 through Bodega (St. Teresa's church where a scene from The Birds was filmed) to Sebastopol for your trip home. An alternate to Bohemian Hwy is Coleman Valley Road, west out of Occidental, a challenging narrow two lane road that has some major twisties, cow slaloms and an awesome view down to Hwy 1. Put the tops down and bring your cameras as both routes are awesome.

why pick a date that conflicts with an event that has been on the calendar for over 4 months now?

Before I posted the poll, I checked Babblers calendar and did not see anything posted on those 2 dates.
(June 12th & 19th) I mentioned over a month ago if people would post their events on the Babblers calendar, that way one would not have a conflict. I also said I would gladly post events on the calendar for people if they would let me know.

I can't keep track of all the autox's, posting, other events, etc from PCA or other websites. Offshore told me after I posted "Russian River Fun Run" there was a autox the weekend of the 12th-13th.

Anyways, nothing is final yet. Just trying to get a idea of what people are interested in for the month of June. May is not going to work, too many things already planned for a few people. And I am sure July will be busy for most folks...with vacation, etc.

Doc did you want to join us on the "Russian River Fun Run" ? What days are good for you? :)

no car that is worthy of going on this run quite yet...
my new creation is in the shop, having body work and complete paint done...
couple months away from unveiling.

nothing stealth about it, more like a brick:eek:

I am building my 5th 914....just can't get those wierd little cars out of my system.
this one is a big bumper '75 Appearance Group car.
It will be GP White with black negative Porsche stripe on the side.
Very mild suspension mods and tuning...Factory Fuchs with 205x50 Dunlop Direzza Star Specs.
Koni adjustables, front and possibly rear sway bars.
Motor and tranny are both freshly built..
this will be a daily driver/AX PAX weapon:D
Car will run in AX 16 with a very nice multiplication factor for PAX.;)

Hmmm. Gonna hafta introduce you to my friend Rand who just bought a 914-6 GT. He's a rally guy but I'm trying to get him interested in AX. Post some pics of your project as it goes along. Sound nice!:)

Is it me or is the poll bugged?
I'm showing
Saturday, June 12th - 27.27%
3 Votes
Saturday, June 19th - 90.91%
10 Votes.

That's a total of 118.18%

Or does the poll use Porsche service math which means everything is inflated?

Is it me or is the poll bugged?
It's because the individual percentages are based on the actual number of voters (11) and not the total number of votes (13).

Please continue to vote on which day is best for you, the POLL ends April 30th. :)

However, it looks like Saturday June 19th will be the day, so mark your calendars in pencil!

When I go to the Marin-Sonoma Concours d'Elegance weekend on May 14-16th...offshore (aka Ron) and I will have a chance to talk more about the "Russian River Fun Run".

We will complete the details and post the event shortly thereafter.

Have a great day! :):):)

Dedes we might also have a vote on which drive to take Coleman Valley or Bohemian Hwy. Coleman Valley will be more challenging and risky (tight narrow road with open cattle range and cars racing up the hill) Bohemian lots of long twisties, more leisurely with more to see and places to stop. Either road we will end up on Hwy 1.

Coleman Valley Road sounds great... but it does cut off the top part of the drive if we want to go along the Russian River out to the coast....I know from Occidental, Bohemain Hwy does make a complete circle out to the coast then south on PCH1 and after that lots of different ways to go back to the Bay Area.
We can talk more at the concours.

I did post the "Tenative Russian River Fun Run" on the Babblers Calendar for now

Just as a reminder, I will be posting the "Russian River Fun Run" drive asap.

I have been working on a awesome drive planned for Saturday June 19th.
Here is a brief description....
Meeting 8:30 am at the Golden Gate Bridge Vista Point (north of the GG Bridge) leaving around 9 am, head to Mill Valley, to the Panoramic Hwy, cruise thru Mt. Tamalpais Park ridge (view is spectacular), take the Bolinas Fairfax Road via the Shoreline Hwy 1 up to Occidental for lunch. Also, Diablo PCA Porsche group might meet us for lunch since they will be on the same route pretty much. After lunch....more local area roads TBD before heading back to the Bay Area or home.

So be sure to MARK your calendar. More details will follow soon.

:) BTW,the first part of the drive is from last weekends Marin-Sonoma Concours "The Drive", but we will continue up Shoreline Hwy 1 towards Bodega Bay.

I have the drive on the Babblers Calendar - http://www.babblers.org/forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=383&day=2010-6-19
