The only information I found out that was not on the ad was that it had been in a minor accident that scraped down the side of the car, but was repaired. he says the car is in excellent condition.

Wow. Almost too good to be true. A friend of mine had a 99 Conv with 85k miles which he sold for 24k and this was at trade in. This one is only 36k miles and looks excellent for 22k.

It looks like a steal but if it is in the shape the owner says it's in he won't mind you getting a PPI or pulling up a Carfax.

Thanks for the replies guys.. i found a couple more cars in that price /year range. THe other 3 are down in LA. This one is in oakland. I personally thought the dealer ppi was a scam. I sold a car and the guy wanted a ppi from the dealer. The just go through a lame checklist ... lights, tires, blinkers, headlights, error codes, etc... Is there a mechanic in the oakland area (i think he said teh car is in emeryville, wherever that is)that we could bring it to and have a reasonable inspection done for a reasonable price? I know there is a good mechanic in santa cruz, but that is a long way to ask the owner to go for a 'possible' sale.

DO you guys know of any issues with this model that I should look for? I have heard that a lot of late model porsches need a new rear main seal, but i have not heard of anything else.
I dont know if it is an issue or not, but the guy said he has only had 3 oil changes on the car in ten years... i used to change mine every year regardless of the mileage....i dont know if this is a big issue with the synthetic oil or not, but i was still surprised. He also mentioned he has a seven thousand dollar stereo in it..

For PPI, check out flintworks (Alden) -- a search for his name should reveal all necessary details.

On a related note, a friend took her MB to him to get her brakes checked and was very satisfied.
