I posted this question several days ago on PPBB but I didn't get any response so I thought I'd try here. Last week I drove over a small canister of some sort. I thought I could clear it but I heard it scrape underneath my car about halfway before the scraping sound disappeared. I looked underneath and a small section (around 1" by 2")of the black plastic covering the bottom of the car on the passenger side was cracked. That's the only suspicous thing I noticed. Everything else looks normal.
Is it safe to assume that if an object clears the front of the car it won't cause any damage as it goes underneath the car?
Does anyone have any experience driving over something accidently and having it scrape the bottom? Any damage?

as the car is low. It would be very hard for something to get into the engine to cause any damage.
Bring your car to the next Babblers event and we will check it out for you.
I have a 1/97 so I have seen it all.

I think a stock US spec Boxster can clear 5".

I was more worried about damage to the rear suspension and underbody. But as far as I could tell and hear, the canister didn't make it to the rear of the car. It sounded like it exited off the side somewhere about halfway past the front bumper.
Was there any damage from your experiences driving over objects?
I'm probably just being paranoid since this is my first brand new Porsche.
BTW what do you think about a monthly BABBLERS car wash?
Thanks.
I'm driving a US 030 and measured what appeared to be the low point at 6". The 4.1" reported in the magazines is taken from the plastic "fender" that sticks out at the base of the wheelwells. Anything strictly between the wheels can be taller.

when it comes to safety. I'd check the underside by getting underneath or have it done. It's a small price to pay for peace of mind especially on a new Boxster.

where to have it (need hoses and power for the shop vac)?
I like the idea and hope that you'll work on organizing it (I/we'll help you).
